Breakthrough in Regulation of Medical Cannabis Dispensaries

James Shaw, director of the Union of Medical Marijuana Patients, a civil rights organization, announced today that the Union has developed ways to enable law enforcement to regulate medical cannabis patient associations (MCPAs) without using a permit system. The program will also confirm that MCPAs and their dispensaries comply with state law while protecting individual member privacy. “This can be accomplished within an innovative system which allows cities to regulate and financially benefit from one of the few strong sectors of the local economy, while staying within the limits of recent court decisions,” he said. “The City Council is meeting today behind closed doors to discuss rewriting L.A.’s medical cannabis ordinance and we would like it to consider this as part of the solution.”
